What Is Fastag?
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system in India operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable automatic toll payments directly from a linked prepaid or savings account.
Benefits of Fastag
- Time-Saving: Reduces waiting time at toll plazas by enabling quick, contactless toll payments.
- Convenience: Eliminates the need for carrying cash for toll payments, providing a cashless and hassle-free experience.
- Fuel Efficiency: Minimizes fuel consumption and vehicle emissions by reducing idling time at toll plazas.
- Transparency: Provides detailed transaction history and SMS alerts, ensuring transparency in toll payments.
How It Works
- Issuance: Vehicle owners can purchase FASTag from authorized banks, point-of-sale locations at toll plazas, or online platforms like justPayOn. The tag is linked to the vehicle's registration number and the owner's bank account or a prepaid account.
- Affixing the Tag: Once issued, the FASTag is affixed to the vehicle’s windshield, ensuring it is readable by the RFID scanners at toll plazas.
